Lead Climbing Clinic, Part 2
Jun 24 @ 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm

If you have never led before, or it’s been awhile since you have, then this class is for you! In our lead climbing class you will learn all the fundamentals of leading and lead belaying.This course is six total hours and broken into two separately scheduled sessions. Rental harness and shoes are provided in course fee if needed. Following the workshop participants must successfully pass the lead climbing and lead belay test in order to gain access to participation in lead climbing and/or belaying in the River Rock gym. Course Prerequisite: Must be currently climbing at a 5.9 top rope level and checked off to top rope belay at the River Rock.

This is a two part class and you must be able to attend both sessions. Space is limited and registration is required. Register HERE.

Must be a current River Rock Member to access the facility during these times. The gym will open to the public (and remain open to member’s) starting at 10:00am.

Scheduled Birthday Party
Jun 25 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The Cove area of the gym will be closed for a special event from 1-2:30 pm. There is still plenty of climbing available – trust us.

Belay Class
Jun 25 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

In the Basic Belay Class you will work with our instructor and learn the technique of belaying. After taking the class and before your first time climbing, you will be required to take a belay test showing the staff that you have retained all the information and skills necessary. Taking this class and successfully passing the belay test will enable you to belay climbers in the gym.
This course takes approximately an hour and a half. Rental harness and shoes are provided in course fee if needed.
Course Prerequisite: participants must be at least 14 years old

$50 for class with a 1-week membership included – this great deal begins the day you take your belay class. All the benefits to being a member are included; you can come take one of our many instructional or fitness classes, not to mention coming back to climb as many times as you’d like within the 1 week time frame. When you return to become belay verified bring a friend! You get 1 free guest pass (rental gear included) with the 1-week membership, so when you test out you now have a climbing partner you can belay!

Saturday/Sunday 4 pm

Be aware: It is really hard to teach someone how to belay without a person at the other end of the rope. The River Rock can’t provide you a climber to take the belay class. The instructor will be on the ground working with the belay class. If there is more than one person in the class, no problem. The class participants can climb for each other.
If you are the only person registered you will need to provide a climber. We will not charge for your climber during the class time and will provide them with all of the equipment necessary. Contact the gym if you have any questions (540) 685-2360.

Top Out Clinic
Jun 25 @ 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm

This clinic is specifically designed for and required for youth under the age of 14 who want to learn how to top out in our bouldering area. It takes approximately 30 minutes. A parent or court appointed legal guardian must be present.

Course topics:
• How to fall
• Proper top-out techniques
• Downclimbing
• Active spotting
• Review of River Rock bouldering policies

Pricing:
No additional charge above day pass. Free for members. Climbing shoes required.

Boulders & Brunch
Jun 26 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Looking for like-minded people to climb with? Join us for Boulders & Brunch, every Sunday morning from 10am to noon. All skill levels are welcome! River Rock staffer Lucy will be around to climb with you and offer any tips to get you on the wall and having a good time. After climbing we’ll go to brunch next door at the Wasena City Tap Room (it’s quite delicious!).

If you are not a member of the gym we have a special $10 pass with rental gear included from 10am-noon.

Slack Line Sunday

Slack Line Sunday
Every Sunday from 5 – 8 pm try out slacklining. Increase your balance and have fun while you do it! Just $10 and includes a pass to climb from 5-8 pm and rental gear if you need it – climb or slackline, your choice.

Teen Camp

summer camp teen 150x150 Whats Happening at The River RockThis camp is suitable for teens who are new to climbing as well as those who are totally addicted to it. We’ll lay a solid foundation of climbing skills with an emphasis on decision making skills and exercising sound judgment. Participants will learn to advance their climbing technique, expand their knowledge of gear and equipment, and the importance of ethics, teamwork, problem-solving, and trust.

Each day we focus on a different skill lesson and the rest of the day is spent putting those skills to practice. Campers learn how to belay, knot craft, refinement of climbing movement, and other tactics to help them be self-sufficient at an indoor facility or at the crag. Each day will also feature an extracurricular activity to keep them moving and having fun.

Week session:
June 27-July 1, meets from 9am-3pm

$250 / week for non-members
Registration after May 28:
