Boulders & Brunch
May 1 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Looking for like-minded people to climb with? Join us for Boulders & Brunch, every Sunday morning from 10am to noon. All skill levels are welcome! River Rock staffer Lucy will be around to climb with you and offer any tips to get you on the wall and having a good time. After climbing we’ll go to brunch next door at the Wasena City Tap Room (it’s quite delicious!).

If you are not a member of the gym we have a special $10 pass with rental gear included from 10am-noon.

Best Sunday morning ever? Most certainly!

Belay Class
May 1 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

In the Basic Belay Class you will work with our instructor and learn the technique of belaying. After taking the class and before your first time climbing, you will be required to take a belay test showing the staff that you have retained all the information and skills necessary. Taking this class and successfully passing the belay test will enable you to belay climbers in the gym.
This course takes approximately an hour and a half. Rental harness and shoes are provided in course fee if needed.
Course Prerequisite: participants must be at least 14 years old

Use of a Petzl ATC and Grigri
Climber/Belayer communication
Arresting a fall
Lowering a climber
Basic climbing technique
Climbing rating system

Pricing:
FREE – River Rock Members
$25 non-members
$50 for class with a 1-week membership included – this great deal begins the day you take your belay class. All the benefits to being a member are included; you can come take one of our many instructional or fitness classes, not to mention coming back to climb as many times as you’d like within the 1 week time frame. When you return to become belay verified bring a friend! You get 1 free guest pass (rental gear included) with the 1-week membership, so when you test out you now have a climbing partner you can belay!

Scheduling:
1st and 3rd Wednesday 12:30 pm
Thursday 7 pm
Saturday/Sunday 4 pm

Be aware: It is really hard to teach someone how to belay without a person at the other end of the rope. The River Rock can’t provide you a climber to take the belay class. The instructor will be on the ground working with the belay class. If there is more than one person in the class, no problem. The class participants can climb for each other.
If you are the only person registered you will need to provide a climber. We will not charge for your climber during the class time and will provide them with all of the equipment necessary. Contact the gym if you have any questions (540) 685-2360.

Slack Line Sunday
May 1 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Slack Line Sunday
Every Sunday from 5 – 8 pm try out slacklining. Increase your balance and have fun while you do it! Just $10 and includes a pass to climb from 5-8 pm and rental gear if you need it – climb or slackline, your choice.

Core & Strength Training Class
May 3 @ 6:30 am – 7:30 am

The class will utilize kettlebells and bodyweight to deliver a powerful combination of exercises that will build lean muscle, burn fat, and strengthen your core. The hour will be separated into three parts: warm-up, proper mobility and positioning, and moderate intensity to high volume exercises. This class is perfect for the beginner but can be modified to the individual’s needs, should they feel too challenged or not challenged enough.

Youth Competitive Climbing Team

Our Youth Competitive Climbing Team is for kids of all skill levels looking to challenge themselves in a competitive climbing format. Competition climbing is an exciting individual sport that promotes physical strength and builds confidence. In addition, climbing helps youth build lasting friendships and the love of a good work ethic. As a member of the team, kids will participate in two 2-hour practices a week. They have the opportunity to participate in a number of local USA Climbing competitions with the opportunity to progress to regional and national competitions.

Join us the first Tuesday of every month for a Pub Climb! Starting at 7:00 pm, the River Rock will be offering a $10 pass with gear included. Climb first, then head over to the Wasena City Tap Room for more specials there! $8.00 1 topping pizzas and $1 off Virginia pints! Remember: climb first, beer later…

The gym will be open early for current members of the River Rock. Regular business hours begin at 10:00am. We will not be accepting guest passes or offering instruction during the early member’s only hours on Wednesday’s. Come in and get your early morning climb on to start your day!
